The Problem with Traditional Education

The problem with Traditional Education is that the job market is shrinking on a global scale. Due to advancements in technology, software, and robotics, many American jobs, and jobs around the world, are being eliminated. The only real source of security in today’s ever-changing business climate is learning the skillsets that it would take to create your own job and to provide jobs for others. When you have the knowledge to put yourself into a position to provide jobs, you have security.

According to the July 28th, 2016 issue of Entrepreneur Magazine: Two-thirds of Americans believe that 50 years from now, robots and computers will do much of the work humans perform. This is according PEW Research Center surveys.

According to Devin Fidler, research director at the Institute for the Future, “There are some overarching shifts poised to change the nature of work itself over the next decade,” including a demand for new skills. "Sixty-five percent of children entering grade school this year will end up working in careers that haven’t even been invented yet,” Cathy Davidson writes in her new book, "Now You See It

Traditional Education means Large Debt

According to the College Board, for the 2016-2017 school year, the average professional will go to school for approximately four years, with the cost of tuition and fees averaging $36,000 to $86,000.

In addition to taking on this debt, they have approximately a 50% chance or less of getting hired in their field, and as high as a 92% chance of being laid off before retirement. This model does not provide the security it once did. In this new economy, the risk is now becoming too great for many individuals and families to take.

The traditional education system doesn't serve the needs of the current generation, much less the demands of the next.
